X-Stone
Flexible sandstone is here!
Sandstone creates a warm and friendly ambiance, while also displaying
a touch of luxury. This is why sandstone buildings dominate the urban
landscape of some of our oldest cities. However, due to cost and
practicality, sandstone has rarely been used for interior design. This
can all change now thanks to the availability of X-Stone a special
procedure for creating a thin flexible sandstone at only 1-3 mm thick
has been developed and perfected after years of research. This process
allows large sheets of stone up to 2700 x 1000mm to be produced. This sandstone weighs on average 3-5 kg per m2; it is
very easily mouldable and can be shaped to suit most requirements.
Applying a special stone sealer guarantees the resistance to water and
forms a very durable surface. Installation on site is quiet,
generally dust free and quick.Where possible this can also be done
off-site. The exceptional technical characteristics and the
flexible nature of this sandstone saves valuable construction time as
well as costs and opens up avenues not possible until now.
Real Sandstone – Flexible and Malleable:
This natural stone adapts to nearly any contour –
and this is seamless.Walls; profiles; pillars; tables;
corners; bends... any object can be made into “stone”, regardless of
the object's material – concrete, wood, plaster or
plastic. Mouldings and corners can be produced by heating the
X-Stone to ‘mould’ to any shape required. This fireproof
natural product can be pasted and fixed as tiles on walls and on the
floor. Or with a little skill the joints can disappear to give
the effect of one massive sheet of stone to do so, the joints are
heated and closed. As there are several deposits, X-Stone
sandstone is available in many different, wonderful colours. Sandstone
is of timeless beauty. This innovative product is light,
flexible, malleable and easy to use. It’s use is only limited to the
imaginatio.
X-Stone
Realstone Ltd supplies natural sandstone which, at only 2–3 mm thick is incredibly flexible. Due to its exceptional properties
and the B1 rated fire certification, it can be used in many areas within modern architecture. The material is especially useful
for façades, flooring and internal decoration. X-Stone is extremely adaptable and can be put onto any dry non-dusty
surface. It bends and can be fashioned to the profile of the surface to which it is attached. The options are endless. Internally on wood; mdf; tiles or plaster. For fireplaces,
columns, walling and furniture. Externally on rainscreen panels; wall and façade systems whether straight or curved; columns;
pilasters… the list goes on.
The raw material
The raw material is available in sheets up to 2700mm x 1000mm. These can be joined close to form a joint free or seamless façade. Virtually any shape can be achieved through thermal and technical treatment. Concrete areas, columns or similar can quickly be changed to appear like “solid natural stone” whilst in situ. Alternatively panels are supplied ‘ready for construction’ designed to fulfil an architects vision.
The façade
We supply façade panels in various sizes and you can choose from many colours. Due to its extreme lightweight the material has excellent build properties. It can be used in an insulated façade system. The application of an additional protective coating ensures an even longer lasting durability and resistance to weathering on exterior projects. Internally the stone can be placed on translucent honeycomb panels and back-lit; placed on columns; dividing walls and reception areas as well as cornices. Imagination is your only limit.
The self-adhesive panel
The self-adhesive panel is a ready-made product measuring 600 x 300mm, (also 800 x 400mm) available in a range of colours that can be used internally to enhance the ambience and finish of any room with a natural stone apperance.Working with this material is very nearly dust free thus making it very easy to manage. The material presents itself with all the positive properties of the flexible sandstone. The panels are already sealed and do not require any further treatment.
