How Green Is Stone?
Natural stone is one of, if not the best building material to use when considering the effect on the environment the creation of the various options such as brick and concrete have. The latest edition of the Green Guide, due to be published in January 08, by BRE with whom we are also working closely is expected to confirm this. The Quarrying and cutting of stone is not generally energy intensive. There is no heating involved in the manufacture of the product and most reputable quarries and producers will make much use of the waste and convert it into secondary products or aggregate.
At Realstone we use as much of the stone as possible in primary products. We are careful to select the block that most closely matches the finished product in size to ensure that waste is kept to a minimum.
Any waste generated is further converted into additional products such as Setts; Derby Walling; Crazy Paving etc. We also work with other companies who take some of our products for further processing. All this means that we have very little waste from the processing of our block at the factory. Some waste is however unavoidable and this we are hoping to turn into aggregate for the local market.
This page will be developed further over the coming months and indeed will continually evolve as we progress our aim of reducing the total effect we have on the environment.
